It's time to talk rates for 2022/2023

Ratepayers fund a portion of the Shire's annual operating budget, with additional funding secured through grants, contributions, fees and charges. Last year, for every $100 spent by the Shire of Denmark, just $38 came from ratepayers.

Each year, we invite community feedback on proposed rates before Council votes and a decision is made. All the information you'll need to provide your comment on the proposed rates for the upcoming year is now available.

Read the full Rating Proposal (including the Statement of Objects and Reasons) and Notice of Intention to Levy Differential Rates 2022/2023 here.

Understanding Rates

The administration of rates involves a lot of technical and financial jargon. We've produced an Understanding Rates Jargon flyer as a bit of an explainer.

For more information, check out our Rates Frequently Asked Questions.

How do I have my say?

All Shire of Denmark residents and ratepayers are welcome and encouraged to contribute to the discussion on rates. Council will carefully consider all public submissions received during the Public Comment period.

To submit your feedback formally, you must provide your comments in writing to the CEO via email to enquiries@denmark.wa.gov.au or via letter sent to PO Box 183, Denmark WA 6333, or you are welcome to drop off your letter to the Shire offices. You can also complete the form online below under the Public Comment section (this went live on Wednesday 6 July). If you have questions about how your rates might be affected, you are welcome, as always, to contact our Rates Officer.

Frequently Asked Question: Do comments made on social media platforms count?
We monitor community sentiment online, but feedback must be formally submitted to the Shire in order for it to be recorded then presented to, and considered by, Council as part of the annual budget adoption process.
